Welcome (back) to Script Club — the reading club for screenwriters.

WHO: Screenwriters and people who like to read and discuss screenplays.

WHAT: I recently re-read Black Kite, written by Dan Bulla, and immediately thought it would make a great pick for Script Club. It’s not only a strong piece of writing, but it also makes some unconventional choices that will give us plenty to talk about.

(This isn’t the spy thriller I had planned to post, but it is still in the thriller genre and I think you’ll enjoy it even more. However, I do want to point out that this story involves California wildfires, in case it is something you want to avoid reading about.)

WHY: To read good scripts, talk about what makes them work, and identify some takeaways you can apply to your own writing.

HOW: Read the screenplay, then bring your questions, observations, and takeaways to the Zoom session on July 27th. I’ll get the conversation started with a little overview of the story’s framework and I hope you’ll share what you learned from the read, too.
